Rouhani condoles martyrdom of border guards in Chaldoran

"Martyrdom of eight valiant border guards in Chaldoran border area at the hands of promoters of terror and violence while we are nearing Arbaeen, caused great grief and sorrow for the great nation of Iran,” President Rouhani said in his message.

He went on to express his condolences over the tragic incident, and urged intelligence and security authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators of this painful crime as soon as possible and with due diligence.

On Friday, eight Iranian border guards were killed in heavy clashes with terrorists in the country’s northwestern province of West Azarbaijan that borders both Iraq and Turkey.
