JCPOA ministerial meeting may be held in New York: RussiaIran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the US, France, Britain, China, and Russia) plus Germany signed the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2015. Iran accepted to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal on May 8, calling the landmark international nuclear accord the worst deal ever signed by the United States. Washington has also re-imposed the economic sanctions the first set of which will take effect on August 6.

'Will the ministers gather again? I believe it is highly likely. I think it may happen on the sidelines of the ministerial segment of the General Assembly in late September,' Russia's TASS news agency reported, citing Kremlin’s Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations Mikhail Ulyanov.

The latest meeting of the foreign ministers was held on July 6 in Vienna. At the meeting the five remaining members of the agreement expressed their support for the deal.
