Iranian Deputy FM Meets Russian, Syrian DiplomatsTEHRAN (Defapress) – In their meeting, attended by the Iranian and Russian delegations as well as Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin in the resort city of Sochi on Monday, Jaberi Ansari and Lavrentiev discussed the latest development in war-torn Syria.

They also exchanged views about the ongoing talks on the formation of the Syrian constitutional committee, the return of refugees to the Arab country, and the launch of a committee to exchange prisoners and detainees.

In a separate meeting on the same day, Jaberi Ansari and Jaafari held talks on the agenda and final statement of the 10th international conference on Syrian peace, which is ongoing in Sochi.

The meetings came as representatives of Iran, Russia, and Turkey on Monday kicked off two days of talks on issues related to the war in Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the officials would discuss matters including the formation of a Syrian constitutional committee, the de-escalation zones established in Syria, and humanitarian issues at the July 30-31 talks.

The Russian delegation is headed by Russia's Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin. The Iranian and Turkish delegations are led by deputy foreign ministers Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Sedat Onal respectively.

De Mistura and delegates from Jordan act as observers. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has also been invited to the meeting.
