Persian Gulf, Iranian vital national interest: Khanzadi

TEHRAN (defapress) – Iran's Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi has said that the Persian Gulf is the most important and most strategic waterway in the world.

Persian Gulf, Iranian vital national interest: KhanzadiSpeaking in Shahid Sattari University of Aeronautical University in Tehran, Hossein Khanzadi said that 40% of the world oil comes from the Persian Gulf region and it is transferred to the world markets through the Strait of Hormuz, adding “the Persian Gulf is the most important and most strategic waterway in the world and it is a vital national interest for our country (Iran).”

Khanzadi added that the control over the Persian Gulf region means control over the world’s energy.

“The Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are the coasts of Iran,” the Iranian Army Navy commander pointed out, adding “we are involved in securing the flow of energy from the waterway.”

He added “maintaining and protecting the water borders and economic activities is the strategic duty of the Navy, and the Navy is fully prepared to defend Iranian waters under the leadership of the Leader of the Islamic Republic.”
