Zarif Hails Reconciliation Process in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (defapress)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif welcomed national reconciliation process among political groups in Afghanistan, and voiced his country’s readiness to bolster solidarity among groups.

Zarif Hails Reconciliation Process in AfghanistanZarif made the remarks in phone calls with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his rival Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday after the two sides signed a power-sharing deal.

He assured Afghan leaders that Iran is ready to consolidate unity among all groups in the country.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi had also hailed the agreement between Ghani and Abdullah and voiced Tehran's readiness to help promote political negotiations among Afghan groups.

In relevant remarks on May 6, Iranian foreign minister’s assistant and special envoy for Afghanistan Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian held phone talks with Taliban officials present at the group’s political bureau in Doha on the latest developments in Afghanistan.

During the phone talks on Wednesday, the two sides exchanged views on future developments in Afghan-Afghan talks and comprehensive efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Afghanistan.
