Yemeni Officials Meet Iran’s New Envoy in Sana’aYemen’s Supreme Political Council member Sultan al-Sami, adviser of the Supreme Political Council Abdulaziz al-Tarb, and governor of Abyan province, Hussein Zaid bin Yahya, held separate meetings with Iranian Ambassador Hassan Irloo at the envoy’s office in Sana’a on Sunday.

In the meetings, the Yemeni officials highlighted their country’s resistance against the Saudi-led military coalition’s attacks over the past five years, saying the aggressors had plots to disintegrate Yemen and plunder its assets.

They also noted that it has become clear to the Yemeni nation that the so-called government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi is a stooge of the enemies.

For his part, the Iranian ambassador condemned the Saudi-led coalition’s acts of aggression, saying, “It is necessary to stop the war and blockade and help the Yemeni nation.”

Yemeni-Yemeni negotiations must be held without any foreign interference, Irloo added.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The war has killed tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians, and resulted in what the UN has described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Some 3.3 million people have been displaced from their homes and 24 million, or more than 80 percent of the population, are in need of aid, according to the UN.
