Ban on Bahrain’s Al-Wefaq Activities, An Act of Revenge

“We believe that this decision by the regime is a political measure aimed at taking revenge on al-Wefaq for its political activities and for its steadfastness in standing by the Bahraini nation who are seeking democratic change in the regime,” Taher al-Musawi, head of Al-Wefaq’s media center, told the Tasnim News Agency.

He described the decision as a politicized move that has no legal or judicial dimensions, and said it indicates the regime’s desperation and the failure. 

Al-Musawi underlined that the ruling will not prevent al-Wefaq from continuing its struggle against the regime.

A Bahraini court banned the opposition party ahead of next month parliamentary elections in the Persian Gulf monarchy.

According to the ruling, the main opposition party will be banned from political activities for three months.

The ban came after al-Wefaq National Islamic Society boycotted next month parliamentary elections.

The opposition party has announced that the upcoming vote will be undemocratic and will only give credit to the Al Khalifa rule.
