The meeting was held between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Philippines President's special representative and head of the Asian Parties Confederation Jose De Venecia.
During the meeting, the two sides underlined enhancement of mutual cooperation, specially in economic, energy and petrochemical fields, as well as cooperation among Asian political parties.
In a relevant development in 2016, the Philippines and Iran agreed to expand bilateral ties, beginning with establishing banking relations and renewing economic cooperation between the two countries.
In a meeting with Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, former Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour offered Tehran’s assistance in helping Philippines’ energy needs, and expressed the hope that banking relations with Manila could be established soon.
